UAC’s Canvas for a Cause Art Show opened in the stormy weather with remarkable success to bring together Memphis’ most avid art lovers and supporters. Braving the rain, local patrons of the arts claimed over 50 artworks for themselves or for Meritan seniors - proving the city's steadfast dedication to uplifting local artists and public art.

Guests enjoyed an unforgettable evening filled with delicious food from Chef Eli with Dos Hermanos Cafe - serving an elegant spread featuring hummus and crostini, fruits and cheese, savory crab cakes, and chips with spinach dip.

Adding to the atmosphere, Avid Violin provided live music, remixing modern hits with a classy, sophisticated touch that kept the energy high all evening. Guests also enjoyed choosing from two delicious homemade cakes, baked with love by UAC team member, Kelly Seagraves.

The night was not just about art and ambiance; it also gave attendees the opportunity to participate in the experience by voting for their favorite art pieces, further connecting them to the artists’ stories and creativity.

Reflecting on the event, UAC’s Executive Director shared her heartfelt gratitude for the community's support:

“Canvas for a Cause Art Show was an incredible success, and I’m deeply grateful to all the organizations and sponsors who made it possible. Seeing this event come to life was truly fulfilling, as it had been a vision of mine since becoming ED at UrbanArt Commission. Last night was just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see what we continue to build together.”

With a diverse range of artwork on display, each canvas represented the passion and talent of local artists. She emphasized the larger significance of the event:

“This was more than just an event—it marked the beginning of a continued effort to unite communities and artists, transforming spaces and, in turn, lives. Every piece created and every connection made was a testament to the power of art to uplift, inspire, and strengthen the fabric of Memphis.”

Though the weather may have prevented some from attending, UAC is giving everyone another chance to celebrate these artworks. The exhibition will continue through October 10, and a closing reception will be held on Friday, October 11, from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Guests can still register for the closing reception and enjoy the final night of art, music, and celebration. If you haven’t reserved a canvas yet, claim one ahead of time with a ticket voucher!

The opening of Canvas for a Cause is just the beginning of what promises to be a series of events that will continue to transform lives and inspire communities through the power of public art.
