On Saturday Feb. 8,

The Orange Mound Memphis Public Library, RiverArtsFest and UrbanArt Commission all united to celebrate the installment of a sculpture coming to the Orange Mound Public Library and Genealogy Center.

To start the event:

The event began with an artist's talk from Daniel Moore, the artist behind the sculpture. During his talk, Daniel Moore expressed his reasoning and inspiration behind the sculpture and how it was that he and the committee came together to design something like this. The community that attended this event joined the conversation by sharing their favorite memories in the community and what they look forward to in the future.

Following this impactful conversation:

Darlene Newman, who is an artist-in-action with RiverArtsFest, invited all the attendees to join in the paint-by-numbers activity. Darlene Newman created this design to share some design elements with the sculpture that Daniel Moore constructed. After the initial design was created, the attendees walked up to the chosen number at random and painted that corresponding color on the painting. In the photos you can see parents and children of all ages enjoying this interactive activity!

To conclude this event,

The Orange Mound Memphis Public Library conducted a scavenger hunt for attendees to win prizes as they learn more historical events..

This event was an overall success, leaving community members and partners excited for the final stages of the sculpture and see it fully installed this summer!
