Sarah Wright

I have been having a hard time remembering. Recalling people, places, objects that have left my mind or are simply gone. My art has been trying to reconcile my relationship with her through exploring the absence of forgotten parts, embrace, and remembrance. Memories being reconstructed as I write, paint, and sculpt. I recall relationships shifting, people leaving, and moments I have forgotten. My younger self was not aware that time was passing. She always thought she would be in that moment forever. She knew how to be happier. How to be more confident. How to trust others easier. I thought she would look up to the older version of me, the more mature one. Now I find myself looking down at her for guidance. Time will tell me how much I’ve forgotten.

Sarah’s Bio:

Sarah Therese is a Memphis based artist whose work centers on painting and ceramics. Having lived in Memphis her entire life, her sense of place and personal history deeply informs her practice. She recently earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis, where she was recognized with scholarships and awards for her artistic achievement.

Sarah’s current body of work explores memory, remembrance, and the fear of forgetting. Through the use of stitching, layered surfaces, and the human figure, she seeks to preserve fleeting moments and give form to what risks being lost over time. Her subjects are predominantly family members, using their presence as both personal archive and emotional anchor. Sarah creates work that reflects on nostalgia, connection, and the fragile nature of memory.
