Pedacitos Y paredes

Pedacitos y Paredes is made up of 19 works—including sculpture, found objects, 2D works, mixed media, and installation—some hung traditionally on the wall, others suspended from the ceiling, and more in between.

Across the exhibition, ten artists explore and reflect on the meaningful fragments we carry—objects, memories, and materials that tell stories of community, heritage, and lineage. From familial materials like servilletas and prayer cards to transformed elements as strong as stone and as delicate as a pumpkin seed, these works hold traces of home, familiarity, care, and confrontation.

Meet the Artists Pedacitos y Paredes brings together ten Memphis-based artists of Latine heritage, reflecting the breadth and cultural depth of creative practice in the city. What binds them isn’t a single origin story but the fact that they are all artists making work here, in Memphis, sharing ways of memory-making and community-building. Some are native Memphians; others come from New Orleans, California, and Mexico City, with family roots in Mexico, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. All in their 20s and 30s, they represent a rising generation contributing to, and expanding, Memphis’ creative landscape.

From DJs, tattoo artists, students, and more, these artists show the diverse ways art is created and shared. Though each follows their own path, they share ways of honoring history, holding memory, and remembering together.Tethered by the small things that help us remember, these artists form Pedacitos y Paredes.
