We Dig South Memphis - Green Leaf Learning Farm

[The mural is a] part of [Knowledge Quest]’s mission to encourage healthy eating, reach underserved audiences and teach art making skills.

The We Dig South Memphis mural covers the equipment storage container at Green Leaf Learning Farm. It was designed by UrbanArt Commission intern, Ted Kasparek, and Knowledge Quest representatives with a goal to capture a funky and fun atmosphere. In 2013, Knowledge Quest hosted UrbanArt’s mural crew to complete this collaborative public art project with children as part of its mission to encourage healthy eating, reach underserved audiences and teach art making skills. The UrbanArt mural team included Emily Balton, Meredith Olinger and Trista Vercher. The project was realized in partnership with the Hutchinson School.

Green Leaf Learning Farm is a 2/3 acre, USDA-certified organic farm in the heart of South Memphis. Green Leaf is a program of Knowledge Quest, a nonprofit in South Memphis that aims to vigorously equip youth to maximize their potential through intellectual and character development. The farm owes much of its success to GrowMemphis, a non-profit organization in Memphis that assists community gardens.
