Memphis, TN – June 15, 2024 – The UrbanArt Commission (UAC) proudly dedicated the "Juneteenth Legacy Mural" at Douglass Community Center on Saturday, June 15, 2024. This special event, part of UAC’s neighborhood art initiative program, highlighted the rich history and vibrant culture of the Douglass neighborhood.

The mural, created by artists Jamond Bullock and Eric Okdeh, features mosaic imagery that pays tribute to Douglass’s rich Black history, honoring ancestors celebrated annually in the park on Juneteenth. Both artists spoke about their inspiration and the significance of the mural during the dedication ceremony, which concluded with a ribbon-cutting.

This dedication was a highlight of the Juneteenth Douglass Freedom & Heritage Festival, an all-weekend celebration in Douglass Park. The festival continues the tradition of celebrating community pride and resilience, now with a mural that represents the history and pride of the Douglass neighborhood.
