On June 19, 2024, the UrbanArt Commission (UAC) proudly participated in the grand re-opening of Kroger Store #481 in Collierville, marked by the dedication of a stunning new mural by artist Juan Rojo. The mural, inspired by the iconic Collierville Town Square, beautifully captures the essence of the community’s vibrant life.
Event Highlights:
Mural Dedication: Juan Rojo’s artwork was unveiled to a warm reception, showcasing the charm and character of Collierville.
Speeches: Lakeisha Edwards, UAC's executive director, emphasized UAC's mission to enhance local communities through public art.
Community Celebration: The festive atmosphere included the Collierville High School cheerleaders, the Tigers mascot, and remarks from the Collierville Mayor.
UAC's Kayla J. Smith-Hardy, Sr. Program Manager of this project, was also in attendance. The event was a resounding success, celebrating local culture and the power of public art.
About the Artist:
Juan Rojo was born in Valladolid, Spain in 1977. He graduated from the University of Salamanca (Spain) with a degree in Fine Arts and he obtained his Masters degree in painting and video at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a self-proclaimed Memphian and is represented in Spain by Rodrigo Juarranz Gallery and in the United States by Jay Etkin Gallery. Learn more here - http://www.juanrojoart.com/
