Henry Easterwood (1934-2002) received his BFA from Memphis College of Art, and joined the college as the tapestry and fiber arts instructor in 1960. As chair of the department for forty years, he crafted one of the most respected fiber departments in the country. A gifted weaver and fiber artist, Easterwood created beautiful tapestries, many for corporate and private collections. Easterwood was a collector of African, Oceanic, Peruvian, and Indian art, and established both the Gallery of African Art and the Gallery of Oceanic Art at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
