A native of Tennessee, Hamlett Dobbins has spent most of his life in Memphis. He received his BFA from the University of Memphis and his MFA from the University of Iowa. Dobbins employs painting and abstraction to process experiences of pure consciousness. Constructing images from basic shapes and colors allows him to connect with his feelings in a physical way, discovering truths and narrating meanings behind once indescribable sensations.
