project overview
Gaston Park Mural
The Metal Museum designed a wall mural for the entrance to the Gaston Park Library, which consists of 3 tryptic style motifs that are inspired by the notable places of the community. The center of each mural contains a low relief, cast aluminum image of these places from the communities history.
The low relief portraits are set in a formal and brightly colored forged steel frame that add vibrancy to the brick and mortar façade of the north east entrance to the Gaston Park Library.
The images on these tiles are thematically designed around the subjects and topics that make the places so important to the history and culture of the neighborhood. The tiles that surround each place were created by the students at LaRose and CummingsElementary. This cast metal mural encourages customers of all ages to reflect on positive imagery within the area and connect them with the local history.
