The first public art project highlighted through Revisiting will be Around We Go and Without Boundaries by Yvonne Bobo at Peabody Park, and Summer by Nancy Cheairs at the Benjamin L. Hooks Library.

To spotlight Around We Go and Without Boundaries, experimental jazz musicians Khari Wynn and David Collins of Frogsquad have collaborated with Yvonne Bobo on an original, interpretive score for her cosmic steel sculptures in Cooper Young. Wynn, Collins, and the musicians of Frogsquad will perform the piece live at Peabody Park, at 7pm on Friday, June 21, 2019. This event is free and open to the public. RSVP here

At the Benjamin L. Hooks Library, installation artist Paige Ellens will transform the colorful trees of Nancy Cheairs’ Summer into a shimmering, immersive forest of found objects and recycled VHS tape foliage. The installation will remain for one month, with an opening reception on June 26, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM. RSVP here

As UAC continues to develop public art, it is important to reflect on the 100+ projects that have been realized since its founding in 1997. The responsive projects and performances of Revisiting will bring new life and renewed focus to work that has become a familiar part of our landscape, highlighting existing assets and spaces across Memphis. By working across different media, disciplines, and public art sites, Revisiting will help expand the possibilities and encourage new conversations around public art in Memphis.

The Revisiting program is generously funded by the First Tennessee Foundation and ArtsMemphis through an ArtsFirst grant.
