about the artist

Sometimes, I struggle with articulating who I am as a visual artist, mainly because I feel as though it’s always changing, and it encompasses many things. I’ll do my best though.

I am infatuated with and mesmerized by all things natural, whether it’s natural foods, nature, natural cosmetics, or natural hair. Currently, I am a visual artist, natural hair stylist, and piano player who actively works to immerse myself in artistic spaces that will sharpen my artistry and allow me to give a little of my artistic essence. Most of my work centers the black experience, whether it’s the struggle or celebration of being black. From an individualistic standpoint, my artwork reveals my inner child, as most of my works feature a huge array of cartoonish colors. My artwork is a streaming connection to who I am at my core, and I think that it is also that for other people who can relate to it. My hope is that I can create a lifestyle for myself and others where we are able to freely express our innermost artistic selves, in a world that is constantly encouraging the opposite.

Youth and education are two of my main focuses within the art world. I strongly believe that everyone deserves a platform where they can holistically express themselves within the arts, specifically the youth. Currently, I am a visual arts instructor for the Memphis Black Arts Alliance Arts Reach program, which helps cultivate the artistic skill of youth from ages 5-18. This has been a highly rewarding experience, and one of my dreams would be to help cultivate Memphis into an artistic battleground where youth, regardless of location or socio-economic background, will have immediate and safe access to various forms of artistry that will allow them to holistically express who they are.
