about the artist

I use my craft to tell honest stories about what it means to be Black in America. My mediums include, but aren’t limited to, film, photography, poetry, and performance.

“Jolene” deals with the idea of threat and jealousy more directly. The name is in reference to the Dolly Parton song, which I have projected over Patton’s face. The song is about a woman pleading with Jolene not to take her man from her. The song cites Jolene’s ivory skin and emerald green eyes, which are features I’ve highlighted in the editing of each of these pieces.
