The Third Hand
The desire to breathe the will of life cannot be dulled. The painter, Philip Guston described the spirit of creativity as the third hand that remains working when all other things leave a maker in their space. Inspired by the hand that remains, this group show examines creativity and its relationship to identity through figurative representation. These relationships are explored by 12 artists through paintings, drawings, ceramics, and installation. Conversations and dialogue between practices are fostered through pairings and groupings in installation. The artists navigating these notions of creativity are Olivia Malone, Beatrix Heidenreich, Andres Arauz, Liz Houck, Abigail Wynn, Lydia “Beam” Jackson, April Pierce, Gabriel Skinner, Rahn Marion, Jake Hurdt, Blake Conner, and Isaiah Kennedy.

About Isaiah:
Isaiah Kennedy was born in rural west Tennessee. He earned his BFA in studio art from the University of Tennessee at Martin. He earned an MFA in Painting from the University of Memphis. His creative practice includes paintings, woodcuts, sculptural forms, installations, printmaking, collage compositions, traditional illustrations, film photography, videography, and curation. Outside of his making-practice , Isaiah enjoys skateboarding, all kinds of cinema, sunshine, bad coffee and good music.
