About the Mural
Daria Red and Anthony Lee
Daria Red is an artist from Memphis, Tennessee, whose work blends the expressive qualities of painting with the precision and visual storytelling of graphic design. Her artistic style is characterized by bold colors, organic shapes, and narratives inspired by stories, music, and everyday observations. Through her work, she creates engaging visual experiences that connect with audiences and bring ideas to life.
Anthony Lee, also a Memphis native, has over 20 years of experience in the arts sector; with 15 of those years being experience in public art and being a project lead. Anthony’s extensive expertise and skill made him a highly qualified fabricator for this project.
Bloom Where You’re Planted is a reminder that growth takes many forms. Like the caterpillar becoming a butterfly, transformation takes time, patience, and the courage to embrace change.
Anthony Lee and his team were able to bring this design to life and fabricate the mural. The mural encourages residents, especially young people, to see beauty in their beginnings, strength in their journeys, and possibility in their futures.

Inspiration and Meaning
Bloom Where You’re Planted is a vibrant mural, celebrating personal growth, resilience, and the beauty of becoming who you are right where you are.
Featuring a colorful caterpillar, butterflies, and blooming flowers, the mural brings the transformative journey of growth to life. The caterpillar on one side and the butterfly on the other represent the potential for change, while the surrounding flowers symbolize the beauty that can emerge when we nurture our roots and embrace new possibilities.
Woven throughout the composition, the words “Bloom Where You’re Planted” offer a powerful message of encouragement to children, young people, and the wider North Memphis community: your circumstances do not define your potential. You can grow, thrive, and make a difference right where you are.
