Richard Echols is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Memphis. He completed his MFA in painting at the University of Memphis. His narrative paintings combat negative stereotypes, and often depict African-American figures interacting within a diverse range of environments. “I believe it is my duty as an artist to create work that challenges the assumptions of the viewer,” says Echols.
