about the artist
I developed an early interest in portraiture, African diaspora, and work centered around black aesthetic traditions. A dominant portion of my work investigates identity, spirituality, the struggle and triumphs of minorities, dance, and is mostly based around themes that represent life in urban environments. My artwork is vibrant, colorful, and my subjects range from portraits to animals, and flowers to landscapes. My paintings and illustrations truly capture the essence of my subjects.
I play a vital role in the arts in my community by teaching art to 800 students yearly. I work with community centers to provide art lessons for students throughout the summer. I help students in Memphis develop their own voices through creative, project-based art lessons. I have a yearly artshow where students showcase their art pieces and sell them to help raise money to donate to non-profit organizations in the city. I believe the arts plays a vital role in building self- confidence in the lives of individuals in our city.
