about the artist
I have an academic background in design with a specialization in Editorial Design, obtained from the School of Design at the National Institute of Fine Arts, located in Mexico City. Art has always been a constant in my academic development. However, it was in 2016 when I fully immersed myself in the art world by actively participating in various projects developed by a prestigious Gallery in CDMX (Mexico City). During this period, I had the opportunity to meet many globally relevant artists, which further fueled my interest in pursuing a personal artistic project.
My personal project began during the pandemic, which led me to create my own illustrations. The introspection during the total lockdown allowed me to channel my frustration and uncertainty, giving shape to this ongoing project that continues to evolve. Though the lockdown pushed me to use digital formats more frequently, I always carry a sketchbook with me to jot down notes and make quick sketches of the ideas I wish to bring to life.
This project, named "Sacre_Czar," emerged from a search for optimism in a time filled with uncertainty and instability. Therefore, I consistently integrate a smiling face into my compositions as a symbol of effort to remain optimistic and happy in the face of adversities. My artistic work draws from elements of pop culture, blending various subcultures into my compositions. I find inspiration from diverse sources, such as manga, anime, street art, contemporary art, and artists like Chango Cabral, among others. As for my future plans, I aspire to continue growing as an artist and fulfill my need to create and explore different ways to express my art. For instance, I have a great interest in visiting ceramics workshops to explore an utilitarian sculptural aspect in my style.
In summary, my passion for art, combined with my design education and inspiration from various artistic disciplines, drives me to continue developing as an artist and explore new creative expressions. Regarding my facet in Memphis, it is connected to my family, as I live here in Bartlett. As soon as I arrived, I took it upon myself to seek out artists from the Hispanic community in which I actively participate. Recently, I developed an exhibition on the theme of migration, which I find very interesting. My intention is to continue growing hand in hand with my community through art. In this effort to work with the community I changed my name to Kid Mestizo, that makes more sense now.
